PUMPKINS

For several years, Zach Kron ran a Parametric Pumpkin Competition from his blog Buildz.  It was a fun thing to do leading up to Halloween and inspired a number of Revit addicts (and others) to submit fascinating entries that stretched the rather boring boundaries we usually associated with BIM.

I got involved around the third or fourth iteration of the competition and was greatly honoured to be named among the winners for 4 years in a row.  Below are links to my four submissions, which form a series of sorts, although they are very different.

2014   THE DESERT PUMPKIN

Design for a Museum of Civilisation, inspired by Etienne Boullee and the monumental architecture of the Middle East, past & present

2013   IMPOSSIBLE WORLDS

A tribute to Escher, built around a family that morphs between different members of the animal kingdom.  Introducing the Box Rig.

2012   ARCIMBOLDO SNOW WHITE

Recreating images from Walt Disney's cartoon classic in the style of Arcimboldo.  Families that create parametric fruit & vegetables.  Introducing the Rectangular Rig

2011   DORIC COLUMN PUMPKIN

A family that morphs between a Doric Column and a Pumpkin, then launches me into an exploration of various fantasy worlds (Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland)
